Tooth Extractions
Oral surgery may be necessary to address a variety of dental issues, such as severe tooth decay, impacted wisdom teeth, advanced gum disease, or dental trauma. It can also be performed to prepare for dentures or to help with orthodontic treatment. In these cases, oral surgery is typically recommended to alleviate pain, prevent infection, correct alignment, or support overall oral health. At Lavin Family Dental, Dr. Lavin explores all options before recommending surgery and provides a thorough consultation to ensure the best course of action for your needs.
There are two main types of oral surgery:
- Simple Extractions – Used for teeth that are visible and accessible, this procedure involves loosening and removing the tooth with specialized tools, usually under local anesthesia.
- Surgical Extractions – These are more complex procedures performed on teeth that are impacted or difficult to access. This may require making small incisions or removing bone to properly extract the tooth. Local or general anesthesia may be used depending on the complexity of the procedure.
